Training Opportunities:
Disaster Relief Training
You can join other Southern Baptists as one of the largest disaster relief organizations in the US.  The basic prerequisite class Involving Southern Baptists in Disaster Relief (ISBIDR) will be offered twice in our area in the near future (June 25 in Alabaster and July 9 in Birmingham). To register, please visit training.sbdr.org. Attending this one class will allow you to serve with Westwood’s Disaster Relief Team. For more info contact Jay Gordon at 205.664.0122.


Donation Needs:
Donations Collected at Westwood:
We are currently collecting donations at
Area 51 (Our Student Ministry Building) from 8:00am-4:30pm(Monday-Thursday) and 8:00am-2:30pm (Friday). No Clothing or Water Please! All clothing donations can be given to The Foundry thrift stores, who are giving free vouchers to families affected by the tornadoes. For now please hold on to household goods until we request them here on the website. View a complete list of needed items.

Christian Service Mission:
They have many opportunities, some are family friendly. They are located at 3600 3rd AVE South. Call 252.9906 or visit their Facebook Wall  for more information.

Crossroad Baptist Church in Hueytown:
They are a hub for several shelters in the area- they supply them with water, non perishables, personal hygiene items... If you have a work crew of 4-8 people they can set you up with a place to serve. Contact Jason Green at 389.2160.

Pratt City Distribution Center:
Volunteers are needed at this Scott Elementary School which is the Pratt City Distribution Center. Volunteers need to arrive at 7:30am. Groups of 5 or more should call Geraldine Moore of Bethel Baptist Church 205.492.8964 the day before.

Volunteering in Tuscaloosa:
If you want to volunteer in any of the affected areas, you MUST be registered and credentialed through the city. You'll need to go to the McAbee Center (3801 Loop Road) to register. They'll have you fill out some paper work, and you can receive assignments from them.

Locations to Volunteer
1. Temporary Emergency Services (
1705 15th Street) needs volunteers to help sort clothes and other supplies. Here is the phone number to call with more information: 205-758-5535
2. If you're wanting to do some manual labor, head over to First Baptist Tuscaloosa and partner up with Samaritan's Purse. They have orientation sessions at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. every day. It takes about 15 minutes, and they'll give you credentials and partners to work with.
3. Woodland Forest Baptist Church is preparing around 4,000 meals a day to feed Salvation Army Volunteers. They need people to help prepare lunches. Their phone number is: 205-553-1494 (
