14.6% of U.S. households struggle to put enough food on the table. More than 49 million Americans—including 16.7 million children—live in these households. Nearly one in four children in the US is at risk of hunger.
More than 2000 children in Alabaster are on free or reduced lunches during the school year. There is no lunch program in Alabaster during the summer. Lynn Coleman and other workers with Sowers of Seed are trying to bridge this gap.
Sowers of Seed seeks to help these children by feeding them lunch and sharing the Gospel with them.
It costs $5 per meal for 1 child for one day. In other words, $100 provides a meal per weekday for 1 child for a 1 month. Twenty-five dollars provides fruit for 50 children for one day. Fifteen dollars provides one case of milk for 30 children.
Update from the Summer
We served over 1300 lunches to an average of 35 children per day. We now have our 501c3 and are busy planning fundraisers and making plans to expand to more serving sites in 2012. God is working! One child came to know Christ as His Savior and Lord this summer as a result of the Bible lessons!
